Canine Rescue & Rehoming Program (New in 2024!)

At Crossroads Rescue Ranch, our commitment to saving animals and transforming lives expanded in 2024 with the launch of our Canine Rescue & Rehoming Program. Partnering with the McFarland Police Department’s Animal Control Division, we address the growing crisis of abandoned, neglected, and abused dogs, ensuring they receive the compassionate care and rehabilitation they need to thrive.

Thousands of dogs across the country face uncertain fates due to abandonment, owner surrender, neglect, and abuse. Nationally, 390,000 dogs are euthanized each year in shelters due to overcrowding or behavior issues that could have been resolved through proper care and training. Our program exists to intervene before it’s too late, giving these dogs a second chance at life in safe, loving homes.

A Second Chance for Every Dog

Dogs arrive at Crossroads Rescue Ranch from a variety of difficult backgrounds. Some have been rescued from hoarding situations, puppy mills, or abusive homes, while others were simply abandoned on the streets or surrendered by owners facing financial hardship. Regardless of their past, our mission is to ensure that every dog receives the opportunity for a better future.

Comprehensive Care for Rehabilitation and Recovery

We believe that healing a dog requires addressing both physical and emotional trauma. Our team works with veterinarians, trainers, and behavioral specialists to develop individualized plans for each dog, focusing on medical recovery, socialization, and behavioral training to set them up for success.

🔹 Rescue & Emergency Intake: We collaborate closely with the McFarland Police Department’s Animal Control Division to identify dogs in distress and bring them to our facility for immediate medical attention and safety. Whether they are injured, sick, or malnourished, we ensure that their physical needs are addressed first.

🔹 Medical Rehabilitation: Dogs in poor health receive comprehensive veterinary care, including vaccinations, spay/neuter services, wound treatment, and any necessary surgeries. Our goal is to stabilize their health and restore their physical strength, giving them a solid foundation for rehabilitation.

🔹 Nutritional Support: Many rescued dogs arrive underweight, dehydrated, or suffering from malnutrition. We implement customized feeding plans designed to help them regain strength and vitality while promoting overall wellness.

🔹 Behavioral Training & Socialization: Trauma, neglect, and abuse can lead to behavioral challenges such as anxiety, fear, or aggression. Our certified trainers and staff work patiently and compassionately to help dogs relearn how to trust humans and interact positively. We use positive reinforcement techniques, socialization with other dogs, and structured playtime to help them overcome past trauma and increase their adoptability.

🔹 Emotional Healing: Beyond physical rehabilitation, our program places a special emphasis on emotional recovery. For dogs that have experienced severe neglect or cruelty, we offer one-on-one bonding sessions to help rebuild their confidence and trust in humans.

Preparing for a Forever Home

Once a dog is healthy and rehabilitated, our team focuses on finding the perfect match for their forever home. Each adopter goes through a thorough screening process to ensure they understand the needs of the dog they are adopting and have the resources and commitment required to provide lifelong care.

🔹 Matching Process: We carefully assess each dog’s temperament, energy level, and specific needs to match them with the right family or individual. This ensures that the adoption is a good fit for both the dog and their new owner.

🔹 Adoption Support: Our involvement doesn’t end at adoption. We provide ongoing support, resources, and follow-ups to ensure a successful transition and help resolve any challenges that arise during the adjustment period. If, for any reason, an adoption does not work out, we welcome the dog back to our care through our Forever Home Guarantee.

Canine Companionship for Healing

Our dogs don’t just find homes—they also play a vital role in our Women’s Healing Through Equine & Canine Therapy Program. Just like the horses at our ranch, our rescued dogs serve as companions and emotional support for women who are healing from trauma or difficult pasts. The simple act of caring for and bonding with a dog can be a powerful tool for recovery, teaching empathy, responsibility, and trust.

Impact and Vision for the Future

🔹 Rescue & Rehabilitation Growth: As we expand our facility and partnerships, our goal is to increase our capacity to rescue more dogs annually and significantly reduce the number of euthanized dogs in our community.
🔹 Community Outreach & Education: We aim to educate the public about responsible pet ownership, spay/neuter programs, and the importance of adopting from shelters and rescues.
🔹 Therapy Integration: With the expansion of our canine rescue program, we plan to integrate more dogs into our therapy programs to assist with emotional healing for women, youth, and families.
